Cardinal Group to study government of the universal Church

The Holy Father has established a group of Cardinals to advise him "in the government of the universal Church and to study a plan for revising the Apostolic Constitution on the Roman Curia, Pastor Bonus." The group consists of:

• Coordinator: Oscar Andrés Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga, S.D.B., Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras
• Secretary: Bishop Marcello Semeraro, Bishop of Albano, Italy
• Giuseppe Cardinal Bertello, President of the Governatorate of Vatican City State
• Francisco Javier Cardinal Errázuriz Ossa, P. Schönstatt, Archbishop Emeritus of Santiago de Chile
• Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay, India
• Reinhard Cardinal Marx, Archbishop of München und Freising {Munich}, Germany
• Laurent Cardinal Monsengwo Pasinya, Archbishop of Kinshasa, Congo (Dem. Rep.)
• Sean Patrick Cardinal O’Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston, Massachusetts, USA
• George Cardinal Pell, Archbishop of Sydney, Australia

This was announced today with the first meeting planned for 1-3 October 2013. The announcement noted that Pope Francis is already in contact with the group.

All of the members (with the exception of the Secretary, Bishop Semeraro) are Cardinal Electors that participated in the Conclave last month.

Pastor Bonus was published on 28 June 1988 by Pope John Paul II.
